Genetic Methylation Test

Methylation is a biochemical process that transfers a methyl group (CH3) from one molecule in your body to another.  This transfer supports many of your body’s essential functions, like detoxification, energy production, neurotransmitter regulation, immune function, and DNA synthesis and repair.  Methylation is also critical to homocysteine metabolism.

The Genetic Methylation Test analyzes 5 different genes that control the production of enzymes that are critical to your body’s methylation processes.  Changes in these genes can reduce enzyme activity, which may lead to a decrease in your body’s methylation ability.  This may put you at increased risk for certain conditions like heart disease, blood clots, or stroke.  It may also weaken your body’s immune response and your ability to metabolize certain drugs and toxins.  Poor methylation can even lead to hormone or neurotransmitter imbalances that can impact your overall health and wellness.

By helping you understand your body’s strengths and challenges with methylation, the Genetic Methylation Test allows you to make targeted changes to your diet or supplement regimen that will support your optimal health and wellness.

Please note that homocysteine can be added to this test for an additional cost.  Please reach out to your location Any Lab Test Now store for more information.

FAQs

WHO SHOULD GET THIS TEST?

The Genetic Methylation Test is useful for any consumer interested in understanding how their genes may be affecting the methylation processes in their body.

WHY IS THIS TEST IMPORTANT?

The Genetic Methylation Test gives more useful information than MTHFR testing alone.  It provides a more complete picture of your body’s methylation and detoxification ability.  Your results will also include suggestions for specific nutrient needs that you can review with a trusted healthcare provider.

Typical MTHFR genotyping focuses on how your body processes folic acid.  However, scientific studies have shown that there are other genes which control enzymes that are critical to other methylation pathways.  Variations in these genes can affect your overall methylation potential.

The Genetic Methylation Test can also go a step further to gauge methylation ability by examining homocysteine levels.  Homocysteine is an amino acid that is critical for methylation processes in your body.  Elevated homocysteine levels are a supporting marker of impaired methylation function.  Contact your local Any Lab Test Now store for information about adding homocysteine analysis to your test.
