Electrolyte Panel

The electrolyte panel measures certain electrolytes in the blood and can be used to detect a problem with your body’s electrolyte balance. Electrolyte balance is essential for moving nutrients into and waste out of the cells within the body.  It also helps to maintain proper water balance and stabilize the body’s pH level.

Electrolytes are essential minerals that are vital to many key functions in the body. They play a critical role in muscle movement and proper nerve conduction.

Test Details

The following electrolytes are tested in the electrolyte panel:

  • Sodium: Helps regulate water movement in and out of cells.
  • Potassium: Found mainly inside cells. This electrolyte is essential in regulating muscle contraction.
  • Chloride: This electrolyte moves in and out of the cell to help maintain electrical neutrality and also helps regulate the distribution of water in the body.
  • Carbon Dioxide: This electrolyte can be used to identify electrolyte imbalance.
