PFASure™ Test for PFAS in Serum or Plasma

The PFASure™ Test for PFAS in Serum or Plasma will evaluate exposure to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by testing for sixteen (16) different PFAS that are commonly identified in people and the environment.  The test will report the level of each substance and a total exposure value.  This value can be discussed with your physician and used to understand your current exposure to PFAS chemicals so you can make informed choices to reduce future risks.

This test requires a standard serum or plasma sample that can be drawn at the Any Lab Test Now store location of your choice.

FAQs

WHY DO I NEED THIS TEST?

For Consumers:

The PFASure™ Test for PFAS in Serum or Plasma may be right for consumers living in areas where PFAS have been identified at high levels in the environment or who are at risk for occupational exposure.

For Employers and Staffing Agencies:

The PFASure™ Test for PFAS in Serum or Plasma is recommended for employers who have a need to monitor occupational exposure to PFAS in their employees.

WHAT ARE SOME COMMON SOURCES OF PFAS THAT I MIGHT BE EXPOSED TO?

The most common sources of exposure to PFAS chemicals are through drinking water contaminated with PFAS and eating food grown or raised in contaminated soil or water.  PFAS may also be found in consumer product packaging, especially things that are made to be water or grease-resistant such as microwave popcorn bags and other non-stick food packaging.

AM I AT RISK OF PFAS BIOACCUMULATION?

PFAS chemicals are very stable and do not readily break down in the environment or the human body.  People who are regularly exposed to PFAS are likely to take in more PFAS than their bodies can eliminate.  This would cause these chemicals to accumulate in their organs and tissues over time.

ARE THERE RISKS TO MY HEALTH FROM PFAS CHEMICALS?

Though the research is ongoing, studies have suggested that exposure to high levels of PFAS may increase the risk of certain cancers like prostate, testicular, and kidney cancer.  PFAS exposure may also interfere with normal hormone function.  It may also be associated with a reduced ability of the body to fight infections.  Changes in liver enzymes and increased cholesterol levels have also been seen in people with high levels of PFAS in their bodies.
