Advanced Heavy Metals (Urine)

The Advanced Heavy Metals (Urine) test measures 41 essential minerals and toxic metals in a urine sample. Because certain metals can accumulate in the body over time, elevated urinary levels may suggest recent or ongoing exposure – or, in some cases, an underlying health concern to discuss with a healthcare provider.

This test is especially useful for identifying exposure to harmful heavy metals such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium, which may be associated with sources like seafood, older plumbing, certain workplaces, or environmental contamination. It also evaluates key essential minerals – including iron, calcium, selenium, and copper – to help confirm that levels fall within clinically accepted ranges.

If any metals are elevated, your healthcare provider can use these results to guide next steps, such as identifying and reducing exposure sources, recommending targeted nutritional support, or ordering follow-up testing.

This test requires a standard urine sample that can be collected at the Any Lab Test Now store location of your choice.

FAQs

WHO SHOULD GET THIS TEST?

The Advanced Heavy Metals (Urine) test is intended for individuals who want to assess possible exposure to heavy metals like mercury, lead, or arsenic.  Risk may be higher for people who frequently eat high‑mercury fish, live in older homes with legacy plumbing, or participate in hobbies that involve metals (for example, shooting or reloading ammunition, or stained‑glass work). Certain occupations can also increase the likelihood of exposure.

WHY DO I NEED THIS TEST?

Heavy metals can accumulate over time, and elevated levels may contribute to a range of nonspecific symptoms and long-term health concerns. Testing helps identify whether exposure may be a factor so you and your provider can focus on reducing sources and determining appropriate next steps.

IS THIS A DIAGNOSTIC TEST?

No. This is a wellness test intended to provide you with a snapshot of your levels of select toxic metals.  Results can help assess potential exposure and guide next steps with a healthcare provider.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE?

No special preparation is required prior to taking this test.

IS IT SAFE TO TAKE THIS TEST IF I AM PREGNANT?

Yes.

WHAT KIND OF SAMPLE IS REQUIRED?

This test requires a simple urine sample.  For best results, collect a first-morning void specimen, meaning the first urination collected after a 6–8-hour period. This collection should be a mid-stream urine catch, filling three-fourths of the collection cup.

DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

No.  You can walk in for same-day testing.  We make it easy by offering work-friendly store hours.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY RESULTS?

Results are typically available within 14 business days after the lab receives your sample.

WHO HAS ACCESS TO MY RESULTS?

Test results always belong strictly to the donor, except in the case of a minor child or an employer or court-ordered test.  The donor may also provide written authorization for test results to be provided to one or more third parties, if necessary.

IS A DOCTOR’S ORDER REQUIRED?

No.  We provide the doctor’s order when necessary.

WHO CAN I CONTACT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT MY RESULTS?

Test results should be discussed with your primary care physician.
