Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) affects approximately 64 million people worldwide each year. In most adults and older children, the symptoms are usually mild and “cold-like”, and can resolve on their own after a few days. In vulnerable individuals, including premature and very young infants, children with chronic lung disease or congenital heart disease, and people who are over age 65, this infection can cause much more serious illness leading to hospitalization or worse.
