Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test (Informational)

DNA testing can be used to determine if there is a biological relationship between two individuals.  This is typically done by obtaining DNA samples from the two individuals and then comparing them to each other.

The Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test (Informational) can be used to determine the biological father of a child while the mother is pregnant.  All that is required is a blood sample from the mother and a cheek swab from the alleged father.  The lab will separate the fetal DNA from the mother’s DNA to create a DNA profile for the fetus.  The DNA profile of the fetus is then compared to the alleged father’s DNA profile to determine the probability of paternity.  This test can be only be performed at 10 weeks of pregnancy or later, and is not available if the child has already been born.

The results of this pregnancy test are considered informational only and cannot be used for legal purposes.

FAQs

HOW EARLY IN MY PREGNANCY IS THIS TEST AVAILABLE?

This test can be conducted as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy.  You should note that fetal DNA is more abundant in the mother’s blood the farther along the pregnancy is.  Recollections for insufficient fetal DNA may be required when pregnancies are in the early stages.  Recollections will be drawn at no additional cost if the lab reports that not enough fetal DNA was obtained originally.

WHAT KIND OF SAMPLE IS REQUIRED?

This test requires a cheek swab from the alleged father and a blood sample from the mother.  The samples do not have to be collected at the same appointment.

DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

No.  Any Lab Test Now offers a few options to make it most convenient for you.  You can walk in for same-day testing during our work-friendly store hours.  You can also schedule appointments to accommodate all tested parties’ calendars.  Please note that for sample viability reasons, the mother’s blood sample cannot be drawn on a Friday.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE?

No special preparation is required before providing a cheek swab.  Drinking plenty of water prior to any blood draw procedure is recommended.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY RESULTS?

Results are typically available within 7 business days after the lab receives all samples needed for testing.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY TEST RESULTS?

You will receive your test results through the email address provided in your order.  Some locations offer results through our secure test results portal.  Other locations provide results through secure email.  You always have the option to pick up a copy of your test result in person if you choose.

CAN I ALSO ORDER A GENDER REVEAL WITH THIS TEST?

Yes.  A gender reveal test may be ordered in addition to a Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test (Informational).  The gender reveal test is an additional cost.  Contact your local Any Lab Test Now for more information.
