Conn’s syndrome, also known as Primary Aldosteronism, is a hormone disorder caused by the production of too much aldosterone by the body’s adrenal glands. Aldosterone is a hormone responsible for regulating the balance of potassium and sodium in the blood. When too much aldosterone is present, it may cause high blood pressure in combination with low potassium levels. People with high blood pressure who have been unable to control it with medication may be at risk for Conn’s syndrome.
The Adrenal Insight Panel consists of two tests that may help your healthcare provider determine a diagnosis of Conn’s syndrome. Running a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) will provide information about your electrolyte balance, including your potassium level. Testing your Aldosterone/Plasma Renin Activity Ratio will help determine if your aldosterone level is out of balance compared to another adrenal hormone that influences blood pressure, renin.
