Vasectomy Success and Monitoring Kit

For couples who are done having children or do not intend to have children at all, a vasectomy is a safe and simple way to prevent pregnancy.  For men who have had a vasectomy, fertility assessment is essential for determining whether a vasectomy was successful and that it is safe to stop using other methods of birth control.   It is also important for men to continue testing routinely to ensure that their sperm count remains at a very low level, even years after the procedure.

The Vasectomy Success and Monitoring Kit is a completely at-home test that allows you to check the sperm count in your semen sample.  It determines whether your sperm count has fallen to a very low level, as expected after a successful vasectomy.  This test requires a semen sample obtained via ejaculation, which can be collected and tested comfortably in the privacy of your own home.  Each kit comes with an easy-to-follow instruction sheet that will guide you through the process of collecting and testing your semen sample.  This test is a great way for men to understand their reproductive potential and contribute to proactive family planning.

No appointment is needed with the purchase of this kit.  If you wish to order online, select BUY AT-HOME KIT to go directly to your shopping cart.

Test Details

This kit screens for the presence of sperm in semen.  It contains two tests.  Multiple tests may be necessary to achieve a negative result after a recent vasectomy.  A negative result indicates that the sperm count in the sample is very low and the chance of a pregnancy is very small.

This kit is both CLIA-waived and FDA-approved for home use.  Read the included instructions carefully before testing.

FAQs

WHO SHOULD GET THIS TEST?

The Vasectomy Success and Monitoring may be right for men who want to confirm the success of a recent vasectomy.  It is also for men who have had a vasectomy and would like to test periodically to ensure that their sperm count remains low.

WHY IS THIS TEST IMPORTANT?

This test is essential for helping men who have had a recent vasectomy determine when it is safe to stop using other methods of birth control.  Additionally, a small percentage of men who have had a vasectomy may experience a natural vasectomy reversal.  This test is important for helping men ensure that their sperm count continues to remain low, even years after the procedure.

WHAT KIND OF SAMPLE IS REQUIRED?

This test requires a fresh semen sample collected between 2 and 7 days since your last ejaculation.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE?

This test is conducted completely in the privacy of your own home.  We recommend thoroughly reading the instructions contained in the kit before taking this test.

WHAT DOES A NEGATIVE TEST RESULT MEAN?

A negative test result indicates that your sperm count is very low and your chances of conceiving a child are extremely small.

WHAT DOES A POSITIVE TEST RESULT MEAN?

A positive test result indicates that you have enough sperm in your system to possibly conceive a child.  If you have recently had a vasectomy, you should continue to use other methods of birth control until a negative test result is achieved.  If it has been more than 6 months since your vasectomy, consult your healthcare provider to discuss your positive result.

IS A DOCTOR’S ORDER REQUIRED?

This test does not require a doctor’s order to purchase.

IF I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT MY RESULTS, WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?

We recommend that you share your results with your healthcare provider.  Most men should achieve a negative test result within a few months of a successful vasectomy.  If you continue to test positive after this time period, or if you suddenly test positive after multiple negative test results, consult your healthcare provider.
