COVID-19, Flu A, & Flu B- Rapid Molecular/PCR Test

COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) and Influenza (commonly known as “the Flu”) are two common respiratory illnesses caused by viruses.

Both of these viruses can cause similar symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, and more. These symptoms can range from mild (or none) to severe; even if you are asymptomatic, you may still be contagious. It is also possible to have a co-infection with both COVID-19 and Influenza at the same time. All of these factors show why it is important to test for both COVID-19 and Influenza at the same time.

At Any Lab Test Now, we can test for both COVID-19 and Influenza simultaneously with an RT-PCR test. An RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) test is a type of molecular test that looks for the genetic material of the virus. RT-PCR tests are highly sensitive and specific, which is why they are widely used for detecting infectious diseases- including COVID-19 and Influenza.

What does it mean if I have a positive test result?

A positive test result means that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Influenza A virus, and/or the Influenza B virus was detected in your specimen. This means that you are considered to be infected with the virus and presumed to be contagious. All test results should be interpreted by a trusted healthcare provider, who can discuss treatment and further management.

What does it mean if I have a negative test result?

A negative test result means that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Influenza A virus, and/or the Influenza B virus were not detected in your specimen. This means that you were likely not infected at the time of the test. However, it is still possible that the amount of virus was too low to detect with this initial test. There is also a chance that you may test “positive” if you test again at a later date. All test results should be interpreted by a trusted healthcare provider, who can discuss treatment and further management.
