Copper Exposure Blood Test

Copper poisoning can be fatal. Excess copper can cause tissue damage and should be treated immediately. Symptoms include anemia, nausea and abdominal pain, jaundice, fatigue, behavioral changes, tremors, difficulty walking or swallowing and persistent muscle contractions that cause limb twisting and repetitive motions (dystonia). If you think you have been exposed to excess amounts of copper and are vomiting or have diarrhea you should have a Copper Exposure Blood Test immediately. Copper poisoning can cause long term damage to the liver and/or kidney. Symptoms of copper deficiency include osteoporosis and anemia.

C-Reactive Protein High Sensitivity Test (CRP Lab Test)

The C-Reactive Protein (High Sensitivity, Cardiac) (CRP) is a blood test that measures the amount of protein (called C-reactive Protein) in your blood that indicates inflammation. It’s also used to assess your risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). With the C-Reactive Protein (High Sensitivity, Cardiac) Test, you’ll know if inflammation has damaged the inner lining of your arteries, thus increasing your chances of a heart attack.

Creatine Kinase (CK) Lab Test

Creatine kinase (CK) or Creatine phosphokinase (CPK) is an enzyme produced by the muscles. Abnormal levels of this enzyme can provide early warning of a muscular disease, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, evidence of a myocardial infarction or heart attack, or acute renal failure. If you are or have experienced chest pains the CK test can diagnose a heart attack. CK levels are also higher in women who carry the X-linked gene for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. An autoimmune disease that causes unexplained muscle weakness, swelling and damage called myositis can be detected with the CK test.

DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate) Lab Test

The DHEA-S Test helps in evaluating your adrenal gland function. Some research indicates that DHEA-S may cause higher than normal levels of androgens and estrogens (sex hormones) in the body, and may increase your risk of prostate, breast, ovarian, and other hormone- sensitive cancers.

Factor V Leiden Lab Test

Only 10% of people with Factor V Leiden ever develop signs or symptoms. However, the first indication that you have the disorder may be the development of a blood clot (thrombosis). If you have a family history of thrombosis or know that others in your family have the factor V Leiden mutation you may want to consider getting tested. Having early Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) (before the age of 50) or becoming pregnant if you have a family history of thrombosis would be indicators that you should get tested.

The Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) test measures the amount of FSH, a sex hormone produced by the pituitary gland, in your blood. In women, Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) stimulates production of eggs and a hormone called estradiol during the first half of the menstrual cycle. In men, Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) stimulates production of sperm. The Glucose (Serum) Test, also known as the Fasting Blood Glucose Test, is the most common test used to diagnose hyperglycemia (higher–than–normal levels of blood sugar), hypoglycemia (lower–than–normal levels of blood sugar) and diabetes. It’s commonly given by your doctor every year and during pregnancy. In addition, Diabetics self–conduct this test multiple times a day to monitor their blood glucose.

Lipoprotein (A) Particle Profile Test (LPA)

Lipoprotein (a), also called LPa, has been identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Lipoprotein (a) testing is recommended for individuals who are at risk for cardiovascular disease. If test results indicate high risk, LDL levels should be treated more aggressively as LPa itself is not usually affected by lifestyle or diet.

Lithium Levels Lab Test

Are you taking lithium for bipolar disorder and experiencing side effects? Lithium can be extremely helpful in the treatment of bipolar disorder and the ability to carry on normal activities but there are many possible side effects. Common side effects are dry mouth, restlessness, weight gain, cognitive problems, lethargy and digestive issues. Lithium levels should be checked after the initial dosage and then 5 days after any dosage adjustment. Long term monitoring should be done every 3-6 months with stable lithium levels or with any change to the treatment plan.

The Luteinizing Hormone or LH Test measures how much of the hormone is in your blood. The LH Test can help find the cause for the couple’s infertility. It can also give insight on puberty, menstrual cycle issues, and ovulation timing, among others.

Lyme Disease Lab Test

Do you think that you have recently been bitten by a tick, especially and Deer tick or a Western black-legged tick? Symptoms of Lyme disease are very commonly mistaken for the flu. In the early stages of Lyme disease you may experience headaches, fatigue, sore muscles and joints, and a fever, but it may take anywhere from 3 days to a month for any symptoms to appear, if they appear at all. Prothrombin Time (INR/PT/INR) Lab Test

Are you taking the blood-thinning medication warfarin? Do you suspect you may have a bleeding disorder? People susceptible to blood clots that can cause strokes and heart attacks may be taking anti-coagulant medications, such as warfarin, to reduce the formation of clots in the blood. While on warfarin it is important to monitor the effectiveness of the medication. If you have experienced unexplained bruising or excessive bleeding your physician may recommend the PT and INR in conjunction with other blood clotting tests, such as the Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time Test (aPTT) to determine whether you have a bleeding disorder such as von Willebrand disease or hemophilia, or have a vitamin K deficiency or liver damage which is preventing the blood from clotting properly. The Prothrombin Time (PT) Test is a blood test used to measure the body’s ability to form blood clots and the time is measured against the International Normalized Ratio (INR).

Rabies Titer Test

The Rabies Antibody Titer Test is a Rapid Fluorescent Focus Inhibition Test (RFFIT) that is used to monitor rabies antibodies levels in a person. If a person has been bitten by an animal that may have rabies (or it can’t be tested) or are regularly exposed to the rabies virus they may want to get a Rabies Antibody Titer Test.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Factor

The Rheumatoid Arthritis Factor (RA Factor) Test measures the rheumatoid factor antibody in the blood – typically not present in a normal individual’s blood. If present, this can be an indication of rheumatoid arthritis.

SED Rate (Sedimentation Rate (Westergren) Test) Test

The Sedimentation Rate (Westergren) Test is a blood test that detects and monitors inflammation in the body. Westergren is the method that measures the speed at which red blood cells settle to the bottom of a glass tube.

Sickle Cell Screen

The Sickle Cell Screen consists of the Hemoglobin S solubility and Sodium Metabisulfite tests to identify the presence of Hemoglobin S.

Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) may include weight loss, persistent vomiting, increased blood pressure, hair loss or a persistently fast heart rate.

The Urinalysis can determine a number of health problems. It will see if your kidneys are functioning normally, if sugar is present in your urine, if you’re burning fat or if you have a urinary tract infection (its most common use).
