Occupational Exposure and Other Toxicology

  • What are synthetic drugs?

Synthetic drugs are chemically man-made and mimic the symptoms of common drugs that contain natural products. Most are unsafe and include drugs such as, K2, Spice, Bath Salts, and Ecstasy. Some synthetic drugs are used prescriptively, such as Hydrocodone and Oxycodone. Many synthetic drugs are referred to as “club drugs” or “rave drugs”, and can be tainted with other substances.

  • What is the drug detection period for a hair follicle drug test?

Once a drug is ingested, it takes between 7 – 14 days for it to appear in the hair shaft. Every ½” of hair equals an approximate 30 day period. The standard hair follicle drug test covers a 90 day period; however, hair drug testing can be performed for shorter or longer periods of time, depending on the length of the hair.

  • What is the difference between a rapid drug screen performed at your store location, and a drug screen sent to a laboratory?

Rapid screenings done in our facility or at the laboratory use the same methodology, enzyme-linked immunoassay. The laboratory uses an automated process to perform the screens. If a lab-based screen is presumptive positive, it can then be immediately sent to confirmation testing. Lab-based drug screens also cover confirmations and medical review, if needed.

Rapid drug screen specimens can also be sent to the laboratory for confirmation if the results are presumptive positive. An additional fee is then charged for this service. Medical review is also available for an additional fee.

  • If a rapid drug screen is performed in your store, can a confirmation then be conducted? If so, how long does it take?

Yes, for an additional fee, we can send the specimen to a laboratory to confirm the presumptive positive result. Confirmation takes 48 – 72 business hours after the screen is completed. Medical Review Officer (MRO) review is also available if legally prescribed medications may be causing the positive result.

  • Does ANY LAB TEST NOW offer DOT (Department of Transportation) drug testing?

Yes. ANY LAB TEST NOW store locations offer DOT drug testing services. Personnel are DOT-qualified to collect the specimens needed to perform the test and our laboratory partners are SAMHSA certified as required by the DOT.

If a rapid drug screen is performed in your store, can a confirmation then be conducted? If so, how long does it take?

  • What is the difference between a drug screen and a drug test?

A drug screen is an initial test that screens for specific categories of drugs, and can be performed quickly with rapid drug testing kits. It cannot differentiate between individual drugs; therefore, a confirmation is highly recommended to confirm the screen findings. A drug test is a combination of an initial, lab-based drug screen with a confirmation if the screen is presumptive positive.

“Over the past 3 years, I have struggled with getting my hormones balanced.  As a result, I have had to have blood work run as often as every week at Any Lab Test Now.  Everyone there has always been so kind and helpful, even on days when I walk in on the verge of tears.  I have to specifically commend Laura on how prompt, professional and compassionate she has always been.  I would recommend Any Lab Test Now to anyone who needs blood work done!”
