Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Female
The Human Papillomavirus, or HPV, is a sexually transmitted infection comprised of more than 150 different types of virus. HPV is spread by having vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who has the virus. It is estimated that 80% of all sexually active individuals will contract HPV at some point in their life.
The HPV Test is a qualitative in vitro test for the detection of the Human Papillomavirus using a vaginal swab for females. The vaginal swab is collected in the privacy of your own home. This test utilizes amplification of target DNA by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and nucleic acid hybridization for the detection of 14 high-risk HPV types. The test specifically identifies HPV types 16 and 18, while concurrently detecting the rest of the high risk types (31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68). When left untreated, HPV can lead to risks of cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and anal cancers.
