5 Panel ChildGuard® Drug Exposure Test (Hair)

The 5 Panel ChildGuard® Drug Exposure Test (Hair) is specially designed to detect passive exposure to five (5) different classes of commonly misused or abused drugs by distinguishing between drugs and their metabolites in a specimen.

Traditional hair drug tests target active use by testing specifically for drug metabolites, which are produced only when drugs enter the body.  However, children and other vulnerable populations who live in drug-exposed environments do not typically use drugs themselves.  As a result, drug metabolites may be absent from their samples.  What makes ChildGuard® panels unique is they do not require the presence of these metabolites in order to report a positive test result.  The confirmed presence of a drug without its associated metabolites provides evidence of environmental exposure to that drug.

This test requires a sample of head hair that can be collected safely and painlessly from donors of any age at the Any Lab Test Now store location of your choice.

FAQs

WHY MIGHT THIS TEST BE NECESSARY?

Children and other vulnerable people living in drug-exposed environments often face other challenges to their safety and well-being, including abuse, neglect, and violence.  The 5 Panel ChildGuard® Drug Exposure Test (Hair) is a critical tool for identifying dangerous environments so that action can be taken to protect at-risk children or other individuals.

Drug exposure tests like ChildGuard® can also be a tool for monitoring probationers or other individuals who are required to stay away from drug users and environments where drug use is occurring.

HOW DO DRUGS FROM THE ENVIRONMENT GET INTO HAIR?

Hair is like a sponge and can trap drugs in the strands and on its surface in several ways.  The most obvious is contact with drug smoke in the air or drug residues on surfaces.  Passive inhalation or accidental ingestion can transfer drugs to the hair from the blood.  Contact with the sweat or skin oils of an active drug user may also transfer drugs to hair.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF CHILDGUARD® PANELS?

ChildGuard® hair tests are non-invasive and can be conducted on donors of any age.

Unlike traditional hair drug tests, ChildGuard® panels do not require that drug metabolites be present in order to report a positive test result.  This makes it more likely that an unsafe environment where passive drug exposure is occuring will be identified.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE?

We recommend that, whenever possible, the child or other individual to be tested is brought as soon as possible to our store from the suspected unsafe environment.  This increases the likelihood that any drugs they have been exposed to will be detected.

DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

No.  You can walk in for same-day testing.  We make it easy by offering evening and weekend hours.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET THE RESULTS?

Most negative drug test results are available within 24-48 hours.  Allow additional time for confirmation testing to be completed if necessary.

WHO HAS ACCESS TO THE RESULTS?

For minor children, drug test results always belong to the parent or guardian, except in the case of a court-ordered drug test.  Parents or guardians may also provide written authorization for test results to be provided to one or more third parties, if necessary.

The results of all court-ordered drug tests can only be provided to those individuals named in the court order.

IS A DOCTOR’S ORDER REQUIRED?

No.  Drug testing does not require a doctor’s order to be performed.

WHO CAN I CONTACT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT MY RESULTS?

ChildGuard® test results should always be discussed with the appropriate legal and/or medical authorities.
