The Aspirin Response Test measures:
If you’re taking aspirin to prevent a heart attack or stroke, do you know if it’s working?
Twenty-five percent of patients on aspirin therapy receive little or no benefit.
The Aspirin Response Test is a newly available test that measures your response to low-dose aspirin therapy. Aspirin therapy is commonly prescribed to millions of Americans to prevent cardiovascular disease. Recent research indicates that aspirin’s effect in reducing blood (platelet) “stickiness” varies considerably from patient-to-patient.
Aspirin inhibits the production of thromboxane by platelets, therefore reducing its stickiness while limiting the size of clots. The Aspirin Response Test measures the level of thromboxane production in apparently healthy individuals.
Aspirin is an anti-platelet drug that works to prevent heart attacks and strokes by reducing the production of thromboxane, the chemical that makes platelets sticky. This test will tell you if you are taking the proper dosage and whether or not it’s effective.
People who do not respond to aspirin are 3 times more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than those that respond well.
The Aspirin Response Test can help you and your doctor determine if you are benefitting optimally from your aspirin regime and what the appropriate level of aspirin is needed.
This vital information could save your life.
If you’re interested in the Aspirin Response Test, you may also want to consider the Hepatic Function test – to see how well your liver is functioning or if the medication you’re taking is affecting your liver.
Normal Range:
A urine level below or equal to 1500 pg 11dhTxB2/mg creatinine of patients taking aspirin indicates an aspirin-like inhibitory effect on platelet activity.
High Results Indicate:
If the patient is on aspirin therapy, a urine level greater than 1500 pg 11dhTxB2/mg creatinine suggests the patient is not responsive to aspirin therapy and might need a modification of the aspirin dosage.
Low Results Indicate:
