Description:

The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is one of the most common human viruses and is a member of the herpes virus family. Passed through the saliva, the virus causes an infection that is very common. The Epstein-Barr Virus has been known to lead to two types of cancer.

The Epstein-Barr Virus Test will measure to see if you have an elevated white blood cell count and a positive reaction to a "monospot test." Antibody tests for EBV measure the presence and/or the concentration of specific EBV antibodies.

If you get infected with EBV during adolescence or as a teenager, it often causes mononucleosis. Mild to severe symptoms of "Mono" include a long-lasting sore throat, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, and groin, fever, fatigue and much more. After you get over Mono, it remains dormant in your body forever.

Positive results indicate it is likely you have a current Epstein-Barr Virus infection. Negative results indicate that you do not have Epstein-Barr Virus.

High Results Indicate:

There is no high value for this test.

Low Results Indicate:

There is no low value for this test.
