John Huffman, a Clemson University professor, designed the chemical to study the effects of marijuana and never intended for it to be smoked, but the instructions for creating the synthetic compound chemically similar to THC made their way onto the internet and it is now being produced by marijuana users and sprayed onto herbs and dried flowers.

Drug use, and especially smoking pot, has always been considered a young person’s issue. This is changing as more baby boomers start using or return to using marijuana for numerous reasons. According to a report from the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), an annual survey sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), among those aged 50 to 59, the rate of past month illicit drug use increased from 2.7 percent in 2002 to 4.6 percent in 2008.
